What is Pilates?
Pilates is a series of exercises developed in the early 20th century by physical trainer, Joseph Pilates. It is thought that Pilates was inspired by Calisthenics, Yoga and Ballet. Joseph Pilate’s father was a prize-winning gymnast. His mother a naturopath.
Our Pilates retreat is focused on improving flexibility, building core strength and developing control and endurance throughout the entire body. Pilates places emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core and improving coordination and balance. The core, consisting of the muscles of the abdomen, lower back and hips, is often called the “powerhouse” and is thought to be the key to a person’s stability.
